A Managing Director of Marketing, Communications and Storytelling

Job Overview

As the Managing Director of Marketing, Communications and Storytelling, you will combine your significant marketing expertise with your passion to make the world a better place. You will build on our current success to magnify our visibility, help us move to the next level of impact, and evolve in our next phase of growth. You will use your big-picture, creative, strategic abilities to create an inspiring vision for visibility growth, your campaign and program design and management skills to turn those strategies into action, and your data-driven measurement acumen to continually improve the whole process. You will also lead the storytelling team as they use these same skills and processes to help social entrepreneurs and impact organizations better tell their story.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Center’s leadership values as a member of the Executive Team

  • Lead and manage the Marketing, Communications and Storytelling teams

  • Produce and lead the implementation of full marketing strategies, processes and lifecycle: branding, strategy, marketing, communications, public speaking, thought leadership, public relations, advertising, content creation, measurement & analytics, etc., across traditional and digital media, for both the Center and our partners & clients.

  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with key stakeholders

  • Lead successful relationship building and business development activities

  • Manage RFP proposal processes

  • Produce regular analytics reports

  • Research and develop conferences & other public speaking engagements

  • Develop thought leadership strategy, plans, content and implementation

  • Conduct market research and develop strategies to keep the Center at the front of emerging issues

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area, or equivalency; eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.


  • Graduate degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field

  • 8+ years of experience in marketing execution, strategy and leadership roles

  • 5+ years in personnel management experience including mentoring, recruiting, retention, reviews and development

  • Previous agency experience highly desirable

  • SEO, PPC, and Digital Marketing experience

  • Exposure to both B2B and B2C clients

  • Previous work with mid-size and entrepreneurial companies

  • Preferred experience with Film & Data visualization

  • Established reputation as a Marketing authority

  • Demonstrated Business Development abilities

  • Exceptional communication skills, including publications i.e., copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills, public speaking, and presentations

  • Ability to collaborate, problem solve and drive initiatives within cross-functional teams

  • Proven ability to manage budgets and drive efficiency

  • Professional and proactive work ethic

  • Love of fast-paced startup environment

  • Ability to calmly handle high stress situations
