Paul Brown is a Senior Director at the Sorenson Impact Center. He also holds the James Lee Sorenson Presidential Chair at the David Eccles School of Business and a joint appointment as a professor (lecturer) in the Entrepreneurship and Strategy Department. He is a member of the Investment Committee of UVFII, the Eccles School’s student-run impact investing fund, assists in mentoring Sorenson Impact Fellows engaged in impact investing, and leads student teams that provide consulting services to social enterprises and nonprofits in connection with courses Paul has designed and teaches. He also advises undergraduate and graduate students on independent study projects and honors theses covering topics relevant to the Sorenson Impact Center’s work. Prior to teaching, Paul was a Managing Director at Sandbox Industries in Chicago, where he co-founded a $300M healthcare-oriented venture capital fund and was the Founder and CEO of Sandbox’s innovation consulting practice. Prior to that, Paul was Vice President and Deputy General Counsel and Vice President of Venturing for the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield organization, and an Associate and Partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis, LLP. Paul is a Director of CleanSlate Centers, TripleCare, Central Logic, Rendezvous, and AMP Media Services. He is an Advisory Partner with Granite Growth Health Partners and an advisor to a number of startups, including several founded by University of Utah students. Paul works as a volunteer mentor with Village Capital, Games4Health, and the Bench to Bedside student entrepreneurial programs. Paul holds a JD, cum laude, from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and dual BAs, magna cum laude, in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Utah, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
